Lately Pittsburgh is really eventful. Several robberies, thefts, homicides, suicide. Whole lots of equipment, including computers and monitors were stolen in the department I am working in, wholesale. "Professional". Well maybe they rented a U-Haul truck for this. It was Sunday when the equipment were stolen. I was at that building. Maybe that's why I was consulted. The investigation officer asked me a couple questions over the phone. I was so disappointed. Why just over the phone? Couldn't it be at the police office? No better chance can let me go to the police office, "legally." I want to see and talk to the "armed and fabulous" cops....

手機店遇到半年前離職的系辦小姐。打了聲招呼互問一下最近好不好。 我說在Pitt Physics還好，going well。她說…那是個hard place。 她說她也很好，剛從Honduras回來。開始了她簡短的故事。 她離職以後去了Honduras(還向我解釋了一下它是個中美的國家)，去那兒的一個beach resort當dancer。但是不久前那個國家發生了政變(coup, 還向我解釋了一下是把總統overthrow了)。因為政治不安定，去resort渡假的人也少了。(接著是以我有限的英文聽力和理解能力猜的)resort生意不好開始讓員工走，她是新人，就因此必須離開。所以她又回到了Pittsburgh。 她描述那個beach resort是一個非常漂亮的地方。她常常一早5點起床走到海邊，向左、向右看都是一片海，沒有任何其它的人。 她覺得，知道自己曾經嚐試、知道自己能夠完成一些事，即使最後還是回到家裡，但是這樣的感覺是很美好的。 她說：" God has a different plan for me. " (注：她之前在系裡的工作除了一般系上事務以外，還有一份工作是操作Pitt天文台的望遠鏡)

和同學下午走路往圖書館去。 有位先生坐在路邊賣花。 看到我們兩個就嘰咕嘰咕跟我們說了一句英文。我完全聽不懂，只能再度傻笑繼續向前走，反正八成是推銷。 只見同學覺得很好笑地說"No, thank you!"也繼續走。 10公尺後我問英文比我好太多了的同學："What did he say?" 她說："He said: " She won't admit it, but I know she wants some roses. "" 哦…原來他是在跟我講話…

在IKEA，先逛完的我坐在結帳區外面看著小說等同學。 一對中年夫婦經過要去客服部，拿著東西的先生看了我以後說： "A bored husband." 我聽了後想了兩秒才開始傻笑。也不知道該回什麼好。 他接著說： "Me too."
